Sri Lanka Launches First National Food Safety Policy

A new risk-based framework aims to strengthen food controls and surveillance across the country.

Sri Lanka has introduced its inaugural national food safety policy, marking a significant shift towards a preventive approach to food security. The initiative was developed by the Ministry of Health and Mass Media via the Food Control Administration Unit.

According to Food Safety News, the policy was created with support from the FAO. It focuses on six core themes, which include the enhancement of food standards and the strengthening of surveillance systems.

The new framework prioritises risk-based controls to better protect public health and improve the overall quality of food systems within the nation.
