Yara has opened Europe's largest industrial carbon-capture facility at its ammonia and fertiliser plant in Sluiskil. The project is designed to capture and store up to 800,000 tonnes of CO2 every year.
According to DairyReporter, the initiative serves as a technical demonstration that large-scale decarbonisation of ammonia production is achievable. This move is seen as a vital step for European industrial competitiveness and broader climate targets.
However, the commercial viability of the project remains uncertain. Its success depends on whether customers in price-sensitive agricultural markets are willing to pay a premium for low-carbon fertiliser products.
