Food recall events are becoming rarer but far more costly. According to Food Industry Executive, FDA food recall events dropped by 10.3 per cent in the first quarter of 2026. However, the number of units affected by these recalls nearly doubled during the same period.
The financial impact of these larger events is stark. One specific example highlighted by the report is a glass-related recall from Ajinomoto Foods North America, which triggered a 37 million pound loss.
